Lent Plan

This lent we are (trying) to read the Bible each day together: discovering a renewed love for the beauty, wonder and guidance found in the Story.

We are using a plan put together by a Bible teacher named NT Wright: a wise and gentle guide. Each day there is a short paragraph to read which explains what is going on in the Bible passage for the day.

There are a number of ways you can follow along. the easiest is to download the Bible app. Once downloaded search for "Lent for Everyone" in the 'Plans' section - or hit the link below for ultimate ease.

The app is free and means you can read along on your phone.

SURVIVAL TIPS

Most of us head into a well-intentioned reading plan with full gusto and then trip over a bump in the road after a few days, so here are a few tips to help compete this "challenge"

  • Commit! Decide now that this is something you want to do.

  • Find a friend. Check in with someone else who is also doing this. Support each other, ask questions and share observations.

  • Find a time, space and style which works for you. Identify a time in the day when you can create a few minutes to dedicate to this. Maybe create a rhythm which becomes a habit over the 40 days. Many people find designating a repeated time of day or space inside (or outside) your house is helpful.

  • Don't sweat it! Miss a day? Don't worry, just jump back in - it's all good.

  • Enjoy it! This is meant to be life-giving.

  • Journal as you go. If you are using a physical Bible you cann make note sin the margin, if not just grab a notebook or open up your notes app and write down some things you noticed, questions you have or things you sense God might be saying to you.

  • Don't rush it! Breath deep while you read. Allow space, stillness and peace to be companions on the journey. It is not a race to the endline. The Spirit usually whispers, so slow down enough that you can hear!
